Faithful to the Waiting

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. For the last couple of years, we have rejoiced over two pregnancies and grieved over two miscarriages. To the women and men stuck in the trial of infertility: this is for you.

May you see His rainbow in the waiting. As we hope and pray to fulfill our vocation as parents, it is exhausting to navigate the avenues of fertility. However, while my arms remain empty, God remembers me. He provides a rainbow in the waiting and in the mourning.

God has been faithful to me:

🌈 Through my loving and compassionate husband.

🌈Through the prayers of my family & friends.

🌈Through a trusted doctor who provides years of experience, counseling, and encouragement.

🌈Through the comfort of the scriptures.

🌈Through thoughtful Mother's Day cards.

🌈Through timely conversations with strangers.

🌈Through songs that express my angst and pain when I cannot.

🌈Through congregation members’ hugs after I cry throughout service.

🌈Through an incredible therapist.

🌈Through my students’ smiles and hugs given on the hardest days.

Our God is faithful IN THE storm. I encourage you to see His rainbow in the waiting, rather than waiting for His rainbow.

The rainbow is a sign of His promise - to never separate the Creator from the created. It is a sign of God’s everlasting presence in our lives. And because of His promise, we can safely wallow in the depths of our despair and anger, knowing that our God remains faithful. When you feel alone & forgotten, God remembers you. Search for His kindness, amid your anger. Seek out His love, despite your grief. Our God does not avoid pain...He runs towards it & redeems it. Allow Him in your storm, in your tragedy, and in your fear & doubts. He will remain faithful.

The rainbow is is not exclusively for the newborn & their mother. It is for the struggling, the grieving, the impatient, and the crushed. His faithfulness comforts us in our isolation, quiets our fears, and provides a peace which surpasses all earthly comprehension. May God meet you where you are today & love you as Creator, Provider, Redeemer, and Promise Keeper.
